HCL Directional Sense Quiz-1

Mr. Bajaj goes 5 km south of his school and then moves 8 km towards the east. He again moves 5 km towards the north and then goes 5 km towards the west.

Consider the attached figure while going through the following steps.



From the figure, it's clear that a child almost forms a rectangular path.

Let "x" be the distance between the office and the home.

Thus, x = 8 - 5 = 3 km.

The total distance covered = 5 + 8 + 5 + 5 = 23 km

The displacement = 3 km.

Take LCM of both the given times -

LCM of [ 224, 364 ] is = 2912

now it's the time when both meet at start.

so no of Round made by Manoj is: 2912/224 = 13

And no of Round made by Manali is: 2912/364 = 8

No of times Manali cross Manoj are: 13  -  8 = 5 times

Initially snake crawl 30 feet towards east.

So, imagine a path ABC from the start.

AB = 30

20 feet towards south, which means BC = 20

25 feet towards west, which means CA = 25.

The distance from his initial position will be a straight line (the Hypotenuse.)

So, 30 - 25 = 5

BC = 20.

By Pythagoras theorem

5^{2}+20^{2} = 25+400= 425

x^{2}=425

x=\sqrt{425}

Hence, the distance from his initial position is 20.616 units South-East.

By using pythagoras theorem

h^{2} = l^{2}+b^{2}

h^{2} = 45^{2}+30^{2}

h = \sqrt{2925}

h = 54.08 km, north-east direction
